This thesis deals in chronological order with all of the films of joseph l. Mankiewicz from Dragonwyck (1945) to Sleuth (1972), a sort of itinerary relevant of the rhetoric aspect of Mankiewicz's art,befort discussing his work as a whole related to narrative approach. This study also attempts to show the recurrent fonction of the filmic texte and to evaluate the position of Mankiewicz's work in relation to other works of that period.

Cette thèse aborde chronologiquement tous les films de Joseph L. Mankiewicz depuis Dragonwyck (1945) jusqu'à Sleuth (1972), une sorte d'itinéraire tenant compte de l'aspect rhétorique d'auteur chez ce cinéaste particulier, avant de faire la synthèse sur l'ensemble de l'œuvre dans un cadre narratologique. Cette étude tente également d'analyser le fonctionnement récurrent du texte filmique et d'évaluer l'importance de l'œuvre concernée dans la production de son temps.
