Des mythes et des réalités de l'avant-garde à Dogme 95, entre tradition et invention

If Dogme 95, the danish collective of film directors founded in 1995 by Lars von Trier et Thomas Vinterberg, repeat the schema of the avant-garde (establishing a group, oppositional position, drawing up a doctrine in a provocative manifesto, proposing a program with international ambition, questioning of the status of the work of art and the bourgeois ideology of art, premeditated using of medias for a high visibility), it is more in keeping with a certain artistic tradition, rather than a rupture's logical. Before looking into the theoretical groundings, political and economical implications, aesthetical position of the movement ; its motivations, its stakes, its contradictions and its limits, through the analysis of its grounding texts and its films, we apply ourselves to define the concept of "avant-garde", considering the discourse and the practices of certain movements of the "radical" avant-garde.

Si Dogme 95, le collectif cinématographique danois créé en 1995 à l'initiative de Lars von Trier et Thomas Vinterberg, réitére le schème avant-gardiste (constitution d'un groupe, positionnement en termes d'opposition, élaboration d'une doctrine sous la forme d'un manifeste provocateur, proposition d'un programme d'action à visée internationale, mise en cause du statut d'oeuvre et de l'idéologie bourgeoise de l'art, utilisation concertée des médias pour une visibilité maximale), il s'inscrit davantage dans la continuité d'une certaine tradition artistique que dans une logique de rupture. Avant d'examiner les présupposés théoriques, les implications politiques et économiques, le positionnement esthétique du mouvement ; ses motivations, ses enjeux, ses contradictions et ses limites, à travers l'analyse de son double texte fondateur et de ses films, nous nous attachons à définir la notion d'"avant-garde", en envisageant le discours et les pratiques de certains mouvements de l'avant-garde "radicale".
