Amenagement d'un espace scenique au risque du cinema : decor et lumiere à l'oeuvre dans "Metropolis" et "M le Maudit" de Fritz Lang

The space treatement (scenery and light) is often the origin of the expressive power and essential foundation of all film work. Therefore, the architectural stage space is of a great importance in a cinematic story. Some elements, such as scenery and light, besides action, can surely have widely contribution in the creation of the appropriate atmosphere. Following this direction, this thesis shows, through "metropolis" and "m le maudit", how fritz lang attributes to the scenery and light a kind of "expressive elasticity" wich allows them to be adapted to numerous situations. This is achieved by : the choice and the nature of the mediums where the action takes place, its appropriate convertings and its cinematic distributions. Acting in this way, he makes with this two elements faithful agents in the confirmation of the story and ideal generators of atmosphere, which stimulate directly the audiences and their feelings. This first analytical part of the thesis is based on another descriptive one where we proceed, for the two films, to generic presentation, summary of the scenario and technical cutting of sequences and shots.

Le traitement spatial (decor, lumiere) est souvent a l'origine de la puissance expressive et des fondements essentiels de toute oeuvre cinematographique. Par consequent, l'espace architectural scenique est d'une importance capitale dans un recit filmique. Complices avec l'action, des elements tels que le decor et la lumiere ne peuvent que participer amplement a la creation de l'ambiance appropriee. Cheminant dans ce sens, cette recherche montre a travers "metropolis" et "m le maudit" comment fritz lang - par le choix et la nature des lieux ou se deroule l'action, leurs amenagements adequats et leurs repartitions filmiques les uns par rapport aux autres - attribue au decor et a la lumiere une certaine elasticite expressive qui leur permet de s'adapter a des situations multiples. Oeuvrant ainsi, il fait de ces deux elements des agents fideles dans la confirmation du recit et des generateurs ideaux d'ambiance qui stimulent directement les sensations du spectateur et son imagination. Cette premiere partie analytique est basee sur une seconde descriptive ou l'on procede, pour chacun des deux films, a une presentation du generique, a un resume du scenario et a un decoupage technique de la totalite des sequences et des plans.
