Encore cinq minutes fut un des plus grands succes du theatre quebecois a la fin des annees soixante. L'oeuvre est d'abord retablie dans le contexte social et culturel qui a favorise sa production et influence la lecture. L'analyse semiotique de la piece, independamment du contexte qui en marqua la reception fait ressortir de multiples incoherences et contradictions a tous les niveaux de structuration du sens. Elle revele aussi la faiblesse des discours anti-bourgeois et feministe, mal imbriques et souvent mal defendus par le comportement meme des personnages. Malgre les faiblesses et contradictions de l'ecriture dramatique, le personnage de gertrude s'est impose dans l'histoire du theatre quebecois comme le symbole de la mere alienee et l'heroine de la liberation individuelle.

Encore cinq minutes is known as one of the largest success of quebec's theater at the end of the sixties. The social and cultural context of the production and reception of the play is first established. Semiotic analysis shows many inconsistencies at every level of sense. It also reveals the weakness of anti-conventional and feminist discourses poorly linked and often contradicted by the character's behaviour. In spite of the weak and largely incoherent structures of the drama. Gertrude, as a character has reached the audience and taken place in the history of quebec's theater as the symbol of an alienated mother and a hera of individual liberation.
