Depuis le xviiieme siecle, un lignage d'hommes de theatre constate l'indigence du langage articule dans le domaine de la representation : comment en effet ecrire le corps? l'espace? la duree? cette simple question incite de nombreux auteurs a imaginer les bienfaits d'un langage specifique du theatre ; la recherche se fait philosophique, poetique, scientifique, linguistique, mais aussi metaphysique. L'on explore quelques modeles susceptibles de nourrir cette utopie : l'ecriture ideographique tout d'abord et le hieroglyphe, le langage gestuel enfin, la pantomime et l'intonation. De diderot a artaud, ce reve d'un langage de la representation metamorphose sans dute l'architecture meme des oeuvres.

Since the eighteenth century, a lineage of theatrical people have noted the poverty of words in the field of performing. What sort of transcription can be found for bodies? space? duration? such a simple question had urged a great number of pkay-wrights to imagine the benefits of a specific theatrical language. The research has been philosophical, poetical, scientific, linguistic, and also metaphysical. Here are explored a few patterns susceptible of giving shape to this utopia: first the ideographical, the hieroglyphic writings, then the gestural language, and the pantomime and the intonation. From diderot to artaud, the dream of finding a specific language for performing plays has been transforming the very architecture of works.
