This thesis studies the French cultural policies and the intellectual presence in Greece from 1918 to 1967 as an indication of the state of international cultural relations. French Culture, the dominant foreign culture from the end of the XVIIIth century to the first half of the XXth century, has known in Greece a period of developpment and stability, followed by a period of decline to the benefit of which went to the United-States after 1945. This research concentrates on the organisation and the application of these cultural policies by the French governments, as well as their relations with the Greek authorities. Therefore we have examined the policies of the French cultural institutions (such as the Ecole Française d'Athens, the French Institute, the Lycee of the MLF etc. ), as well as the influence of the catholic schools on the dissimination of the French language.

Cette thèse étudie les politiques culturelles et la présence spirituelle de la France en Grèce de 1918 à 1967 comme un exemple symptomatique de l'état des relations culturelles internationales. La culture française a connu en Grèce une période de développement et de stabilisation comme culture étrangère dominante de la fin du XVIIIéme siècle à la première moitié du XXème siècle puis une période de déclin au profit de la culture américaine après 1945. Notre recherche se concentre sur l'organisation et la mise en oeuvre des politiques culturelles par les gouvernements français, ainsi que sur les réactions des gouvernements grecs. On étudie ici la mise en oeuvre des politiques culturelles françaises par ses établissements culturels (l'Ecole Française d'Athènes, l'Institut Français, le Lycée de la M. L. F. Etc. ) et l'influence des écoles catholiques sur la diffusion de la langue française.
