If we follow the history of the Islamic illuminated manuscript in the Indian Sultanate (1200-1600) using as a source a set of fifty four manuscripts, it is possible to establish the main characteristics of the pre-mughal codex and to ascertain the existence of a small number of production centers. This thesis follows the different stages of the creation. Firstly, it describes the context of the origin of the Islamic codex in the Indian continent. Secondly, it reviews the material and techniques used in the manuscripts and follows the preparation of the book until the decoration is put into place. In a third part, an iconographic and stylistic analysis of the miniatures is presented. Finally, the last section is devoted to the study of the people involved in the preparation of the manuscript, craftsmen and commissioners, and the structures that have sheltered this production, workshops and libraries.

En retraçant l'histoire du manuscrit à peintures islamique dans l'Inde des sultanats (1206-1600) à partir d'un corpus de cinquante-quatre manuscrits, il est possible de définir les principales caractéristiques du codex pré-moghol et de mettre en lumière l'existence d'un petit nombre de centres de production. La thèse suit les différentes étapes de l'exécution du manuscrit à peintures. Dans un premier temps, elle s'attache à définir dans quel contexte le codex islamique a vu le jour dans le sous-continent indien. Elle rend compte dans une deuxième partie des matériaux et des techniques utilisés et s'intéresse à la préparation de la copie jusqu'à la mise en place des décors. Une analyse iconographique et stylistique des miniatures fait l'objet de la troisième étape du travail. Enfin, la dernière partie est consacrée aux personnes qui ont participé à l'élaboration du manuscrit, artisans et commanditaires, et aux structures qui ont abrité cette production, ateliers et bibliothèques.
