In the fifties, Cameroon was one of the French territories in black Africa considered with a great interest between 1946 and 1956. It got 17% of the French investments overseas during that period. That amount is almost the same one for the french equatorial Africa federation, which was bigger and had more people though. However, the image of France went gradually down in Cameroon from 1946 to 1956. One of the main issue of the French investments in Cameroon during that period was the rise of nationalism, and the start of the rebellion and the war from 1955. This thesis is a study of the relationship between the french colonial state and the Cameroonian society. It discuss the part played by Cameroon in the dynamic of the french capitalism, but also the part played by that capitalism in the evolution of the relationship between France and Cameroon, and in the degradation of the image of France in Cameroon between 1946 and 1956

Dans les années 1950, le Cameroun était l'un des territoires français d’Afrique noire considérés avec le plus d'intérêt. Entre 1946 et 1956, la France y a réalisé 17% de ses investissements outre-mer de cette période, soit presque autant qu'elle ne l'a fait pour la fédération aérienne pourtant bien plus grande et bien plus peuplée. Ces importants investissements n'ont cependant pas empêché la dégradation progressive de l'image de la France au Cameroun de 1946 et 1956. Ils ont même été l'une des principales causes de la montée du nationalisme camerounais qui a abouti, à partir de 1955, à la rébellion et a un véritable état de guerre. La présente thèse étudie les relations entre l'état colonial français et la société camerounaise. Elle montre le rôle joué par le Cameroun dans la dynamique du capitalisme français, mais aussi le rôle joué par ce capitalisme dans l'évolution du Cameroun, dans celle des relations franco-camerounaises, et dans la dégradation de l'image de la France au Cameroun entre 1946 et 1956
