How does a pastime of a small group of technic lovers during the twenties become a mass-hobby for the Second World War? The thesis proposes to answer this question by analysing all the aspects of the history of broadcasting : juridical statutes, the relationships with the public institutions and political circles, the transformations of audiences, the making of programmes schedules, and finally, the construction of various types of programmes (these programmes are studied using a perspective, genealogical and quantitative analysis).

Comment un passe-temps partagé par une poignée d'amateurs pendant les années vingt devient-il un loisir de masse qui touche un Français sur deux à la veille de la seconde guerre mondiale? La thèse se propose de répondre à cette question en analysant toutes les dimensions de l'histoire de la TSF : les statuts juridiques, les interactions avec les institutions et les hommes politiques, les transformations des auditoires, la construction de grilles des programmes et la mise au point de genres radiophoniques (étudiés dans une double analyse, généalogique et statistique).
