The pyrenees are the natural boundary above all else; they conditionnated at all time the relations between the border populations. During the antiquity, the pyrenees offer the view of a politic boundary, if not ethnic or cultural, between the gaul and iberia. The roman domination turn it into an administrative limit joining every slope at a distinct provincial administration. The results are visible in the inegalities of romanisation between each side of the massif. The survey of the different sources now available (texts, epigraphy and archaeology), that takes care for the first time the two sides of the mountains, permits an original approach of a singular frontier in the roman period.

Frontiere naturelle par excellence, les pyrenees ont toujours conditionne les rapports entre les populations limitrophes dans l'antiquite, les pyrenees offrent l'image d'une frontiere politique a defaut d'etre une frontiere ethnique ou culturelle, entre les pays gaulois et leurs voisins iberes. La domination romaine en fit une veritable limite administrative, chaque versant etant definitivement rattache a une administration provinciale differente, ce qui se ressentit sur le plan de la romanisation. L'analyse des faits litteraires, epigraphiques et archeologiques aujourd'hui disponibles, qui prend pour la premiere fois en compte les deux versants de la chaine, permet une approche originale et inedite de la frontiere pyreneenne dans l'antiquite romaine.
