Abstract EN:

The history of the acilii glabriones senatorial family, known from the 3rd century b. C. To the 5th century a. D. , shows two main characteristics : the period of time over which it lasted and the obscurity of most of its members. Among the 3a characters appearing on the stemma, less than six are mentioned in literary or historical documents. Nevertheless the glabriones are registered in the fasti consulares, generation after generation, without any interruption, especially in the first three centuries of the empire. The framework of this study gill be outlined (the family circle : onomastics, kinship, gentilician organisation), then the foundations of power, and finally the ways in which this power is exercised will be examined : the glabriones put the survival of their family first rather than play a social and political part which might have been outstanding but also likely to bring about their downfall and diseapparance.
