Les amphores orientales en Gaule dans l'Antiquité tardive (IVe-VIIe siècles apr. J. C. ) : typologie, chronologie, contenu et circulation

Starting from a study of the eastern origin's amphoras, discovered in gaul at one hundred sites of late antiquity, this research treats one of the aspects of ancient economic history, through examination of the commercial trades between orient and occident, concerning the goods carried in amphoras. As knowledge for the amphoras of this period was at this point insufficient, deep ceramologic study has to be done to etablish an unambiguous typology which wants to be a further dating implement for archaeologists. Epigraphy as well as fabric's study are the tools which have led to determinate both contents and origins of the preliminarily definite forms. The diffusion in gaul and mediterranean world informs us on the orientation of the commercial and trading ways as analysis of regional supply allow to observe historical and geographical fluctuations of those sources. Starting from physical elements collected, it becomes possible to bring a contribution for the comprehension of late antiquity's economy, in this turning-point period which saw the crossing of the ancient world to the middle ages.

A partir d'un recensement des amphores de provenance orientale decouvertes en gaule sur une centaine de sites de l'antiquite tardive, cette recherche aborde un des aspects de l'histoire economique antique, a travers l'etude des echanges commerciaux entre l'orient et l'occident des biens transportes en amphores. La connaissance, jusqu'alors lacunaire des amphores de cette periode a impose une etude ceramologique approfondie afin de mettre en place une typologie precise, qui se veut un instrument de datation supplementaire pour l'archeologue. L'epigraphie ainsi que l'etude des pates font partie des outils qui ont mene a une determination de la provenance et du contenu des formes prealablement definies. La diffusion en gaule et dans le monde mediterraneen nous eclaire sur l'orientation des circuits commerciaux et d'echanges, de meme que l'analyse des regions d'approvisionnement permet d'observer des fluctuations aussi bien historiques que geographiques de ces sources. A partir des elements materiels ainsi recueillis, il est devenu possible d'apporter une contribution a la comprehension de l'economie de l'antiquite tardive, en cette periode charniere qui voit le passage du monde antique au medieval.
