A socio-economic, political and aesthetic study of popular (artistic) creation in three latin american countries: cuba, venezuela and chile. An historico-artistic analysis of the work of artists and of groups dating from the beginning of the twentieth century - mexicain mural painting, manifestations of artistic avant-gardes and individual responses-towards social and political movements of the time. From this one cann see the fondation of a new popular artistic pratice since the 1970's, generating concepts of artistic environment, of collective artistic creation, and the new role of the artist. This new popular art can be seen to engender a huge creative potential for the people of latin america; art created by all, for the needs of all. One can see a new aesthetic coming from the visual image in cuba, from the movement of chilean mural collectives (brigadistas) during the government of the popular front in chile and from the polychrome woodarts of peasant artists in venezuela, right up to the mobilisation of latin american groups and artists in "exile" in europe and the united states. The search for a cultural identity by these people acts to break down the concept of an artistic avant-garde and in third world countries, throws into question the cul- tural pervasion, the destruction of norms and the reducing patterns of industriali- sed countries. A more developed and equal discussion is necessary to propagate cultural cross- breeding and cultural plurality, as well as towards the foundation of a new cultural order.

Etude socio-economique, politique et esthetique de la creation populaire dans trois pays de l'amerique latine: cuba, venezuela, chili. L'analyse historico-artistique des oeuvres des groupes et des artistes du debut du siecle-muralisme mexicain, avant-gardes artistiques et demarches individuellesliees aux mouvements sociaux et politiques de l'epoque, va porter ses fruits a partir des annees 70, en participant aux fondements d'un nouvel art populaire qui engendre les concepts d'environnement artistique, de creation collective et de nouveau role de l'artiste. Ce nouvel art populaire donne a voir l'enorme potentiel creatif des peuples d'amerique latine, art cree par tous et pour les besoins de tous. Nous avons esquisse une esthetique nouvelle a partir de l'image visuelle a cuba, du mouvement des brigades muralistes pendant le gouvernement de l'unite populaire au chili, et des bois polychromes des peintres paysans au venezuela; jusqu'a la mobilisation des groupes et des artistes latino americains en "exil" en europe et aux etatsunis. La recherche d'une identite culturelle par ces peuples va effriter le concept d'art international et d'avant-garde artistique, et va mettre en question, dans les pays du tiers monde, la penetration culturelle et destructrice des normes et des modeles reducteurs des pays industrialises. Un dialogue plus egalitaire s'avere necessaire pour ouvrir la voie au metissage culturel et a la pluralite des cultures ainsi qu'aux fondements d'un nouvel ordre culturel.
