God lmq holds a peculiar position in the sabean pantheon. Studying the function and nature of god lmq not only enlarged our knowledge about this god but was also a help in the discovery of the sabean and, in general terms, the south-arabian pantheon. We wished mainly to determine what the sabean pantheon was and which part had god lmq amidst the sabean state. We contrived to reach a conception of the sabean pantheon and a census of the major divinities which made it up. God lmq preeminent function within the sabean state appeared through various terms : lmq and sb, mlk ttr et lmq, e. T. C. It is also obvious in the building of the main god lmq temple outside the capital-city of marib and its recognition as the sabean state official divinity. Under the kings of sheba and du-raydan, god lmq supremacy among the sabean pantheon was emphasized. The establishment of the himyarite dynasty on the throne of sheba was marked by the confirmation of god lmq as the only divinity throughout the ex-sabean kingdom territory and, later, by the desappearance of its cult. Studying the sabean pantheon character has led to give the south-arabian pantheon a new prospect, cleared from the astral aspect. God lmq cult included certain religious practices like pilgrimages, offerings, e. T. C. The researches on the nature of god lmq disclose a divinity which protects the. .

Le dieu Lmqh occupe une place particulière dans le panthéon sabéen. L'étude de la fonction et de la nature du dieu Lmqh n'a pas seulement approfondi nos connaissances sur ce dieu, mais nous a aidé à découvrir la nature du panthéon sabéen et du panthéon sud-arabique en général. La première préoccupation a été de définir ce qu'était le panthéon sabéen et ce que fut le rôle du dieu Lmqh au sein de l'état sabéen. Nous sommes parvenu à donner une conception du panthéon sabéen et à recenser les divinités majeures qui le composaient. Le rôle du dieu Lmqh au sein de l'état sabéen est apparu à travers différents termes : Lmqh et Sb mlk ttr et Lmqh, etc. Ce rôle est aussi manifeste par la construction du temple principal du dieu Lmqh à l'extérieur de la capitale Marib, et par la reconnaissance du dieu Lmqh comme divinité officielle de l'état sabéen. Au cours de la période des rois de Saba et de du-raydan, le dieu Lmqh confirme sa suprématie au sein du panthéon. L'arrivée de la dynastie himyarite au trône sabéen a été marquée par la confirmation de la place du dieu Lmqh comme une divinité unique sur le territoire de l'ex-royaume sabéen et ensuite par la disparition de son culte. En étudiant le caractère du panthéon sabéen, nous sommes parvenu à donner une nouvelle vision du panthéon sud-arabique, dégagée du caractère astral.
