This thesis proposes, within the geographical limits of latin europe (france, italy, spain and portugal), a statistical analysis of the works about christopher columbus published from 1492 to 1992 and gathered in a bibliography that holds more than 5000 entries taken from the files and catalogues of the major librairies of the four countries. This original approach of the historiography of a subject gives an all new perspective to the study of the elaboration of historical knowledge. The first part of the thesis presents an overview of the biography of christopher columbus with a special emphasis on the more polemical subjects. The second part organizes the bibliographical informations, with a database, making possible the analysis of patterns and trends in the historiography about columbus since the discovery of america.

Cette these, dans le cadre geographique de l'europe latine propose (france, italie, espagne et portugal), une analyse statistique des publications sur christophe colomb de 1492 a 1992 a partir d'une bibliographie de plus de 5000 entrees, recoltees dans les fichiers et catalogues des principales bibliotheques des quatre pays. Cette approche originale de l'historiographie d'un sujet permet une mise en perspective du processus d'elaboration des connaissances historiques. La premiere partie de la these presente les principales etapes de la biographie colombine, en portant une attention particuliere aux themes les plus controverses. La deuxieme partie organise les informations bibliographiques, a l'aide d'une base de donnees, pour retracer les grandes tendances de l'edition sur colomb depuis la decouverte de l'amerique.
