Founded by st fursy around 650, wrecked by the Vikings, then restored by earl "Herbert de Champagne" around 1000, Lagny's abbey was once more helped by the family of champagne, when "Henri le liberal" and abbot Hugues, his brother, rebuilt the monastery, repaired the ancient nave and erected a new choir after a fire broke out in 1157. But a new fire in 1184 slowed the works and abbot Jean Britel, taking advantage of the abbey's prosperity, especially due to the fairs in Champagne, began to build a new and vast sanctuary. First and fare most, the radiant chapels were built and the lady axial chapel was dedicated in 1206. In the following decade, the lower level of the choir was finished. But the decline of the fairs, the end of privileged links with the earls of Champagne become the beginning of a very difficult period; the triforium was built around 1250 but the choir was never vaulted. The hundred years' war and the wars of religion increased difficulties and st Pierre abbey had to enter the st Maur congregation in the XVIIth century. The community disappeared during revolution.

Fondée par saint Fursy vers 650, dévastée par les normands, puis restaurée par le comte Herbert de Champagne vers l'an mil, l'abbaye saint Pierre de Lagny fut encore aidée par cette famille comtale à la suite d'un incendie en 1157: Henri le libéral et son frère Hugues, abbé de Lagny reconstruisirent les bâtiments monastiques, réaménagèrent la nef et érigèrent un nouveau chœur. Mais les travaux furent ralentis par un nouveau sinistre en 1184 et l’abbé Jean Britel, profitant de la prospérité du monastère, essentiellement liée aux foires de Champagne, entreprit l'édification d'un nouveau et vaste sanctuaire. On commença par les chapelles rayonnantes et la chapelle axiale fut dédicacée en 1206. Dans la décennie suivante, les parties basses du chœur furent achevées. Mais le déclin des foires, la fin des liens privilégiés avec les comtes de Champagne amorcent les difficultés du monastère : le triforium est édifié vers 1250 et le chœur ne fut jamais voute. La guerre de Cent ans et les guerres de religion aggravent encore cette situation et saint Pierre dut entrer dans la congrégation de saint-Maur au XVIIème. La communauté disparut à la revolution.
