Les architectes et la naissance de l'urbanisme de Plan : pratiques locales, réseaux nationaux et transnationaux en France et Europe francophone (1880-1920)

This thesis gave the possibility to investigate the role held by architects in the city reform movement that characterized -in France and in the francophone Europe the 1880-1920 period. This fact has determined the reconstruction of the social networks that linked architects to reform elites, as well as the prosopography of a professional circle that has reacted in many different ways to the project of a radical change in the architectural intervention scale. The contribution of these professionals to the city construction conceived as a knowledge, reformation and action object has been analyzed in five big towns at the borders of francophone countries: Brussels, Lausanne, Lille, Luxembourg and Nancy. Local urban experiences, international conferences trend and debates that followed the reconstruction of the regions destroyed by the war gave the possibillty to replace the birth of town planning in a national and transnational mobility framework of actors and notions.

La thèse a permis de distinguer le rôle qu'ont eu les architectes dans le mouvement de réforme de la ville qui caractérise, en France et en Europe francophone, la période 1880-1920. Cela a impliqué de reconstituer les réseaux sociaux qui liaient architectes et élites réformatrices, ainsi que la prosopographie d'un milieu professionnel qui a réagi de façon diversifiée au projet de changement radical de l'échelle d'intervention de l'architecte. La contribution de ces professionnels à la construction de la ville en tant qu'objet de connaissance, de réforme et d'action a été analysée dans cinq grandes villes aux frontières des pays francophones : Bruxelles, Lausanne, Lille, Luxembourg et Nancy. Les pratiques urbaines locales, l'actualité des congrès internationaux et les débats qui accompagnent la reconstruction des régions dévastées par la guerre ont permis de repositionner la genèse de l'urbanisme dans le cadre d'une mobilité nationale et transnationale des acteurs et des notions.
