Abstract EN:

This thesis studies the representation of a group of sea goddesses, the nereids. These divinities most often form an undifferentiated group. Only a few of them, such as thetis, amphitrite or galateia, have personal myths. Their images have been excluded when they are not accompanied by at least one other nereid. The documents in which these goddesses are represented have been assembled in a catalogue organized according to legnedary themes in which they are present. Images without a narrative context have been organized according to an iconographic outline. The objects (almost 1300), whatever their support, belong to the ancient greco-roman world. Some indo-greek and copt works have been included. However the etruscan documents have been excluded. Thus the catalogue covers a large geographical area (europe, africa, the near est, pakistan) and the period from 700b. B. To the end of antiquity. The commentary which follows the catalogue endeavours to clarify the way people represented the nereids during antiquity. After a definition of the goddesses and their mythical personality (relatives, origin, study of names, etymology, cults. . . ) the representation of
