The thesis is made with british and belgian archives. It is about the origin and the financing of the project, building and running of the benguela railway. The benguela railway has been constructed by a british company with private funds, in a portuguese colony (angola) fo the working of the mines of katanga (belgium congo). The benguela rai way aroused conflicts between the railway companies of the region and the colonial interets. It is also about the role of africans in this project and the benefit of the benguela railway.

Ce travail a ete realise a partir des archives anglaises et belges, et toute la litterature en langues francaise et anglaise sur le sujet. J'ai developpe les origines du projet, tous les problemes lies au financement, a la construction et a l'exploitation dudit chemin de fer il a ete construit par une compagnie privee et avec des capitaux bri tanniques, dans une colonie portugaise (l'angola) pour exploiter les mi nes du haut-katanga au congo belge (zaire). Ce chemin de fer fut un terrain de conflits d'interet des puissances coloniales de la region et des chemins de fer concurrents. J'ai developpe l'apport de la popu lation africaine a la realisation du projet et a l'exploitation du c. F. B. , ainsi que le profit tire par les constructeurs, le colonisateur l'angola et les populations angolaises.
