Khourdigha region is not historically speaking as important as the fat plains of Tadla and Chaouia. This wide region is a transhumance because of climate and soil condition however, the basement of this region contains one of most important phosphate deposits of the word (by its volume and its quality) and working of this deposit will totally transform economical bases, but also demographical and social structures and the life of nomad in the past population was organised around them. Mining activity has created the basic infrastructure necessary to space life, looking like a desert and abore all, it has created the first populating seltlment, consequently the urban heart of Khouribga. Khouribga paternity comes from mining activity and its development is narrowly linked to the progress of phosphate economy. Neverthless since the end of the French protectorate in Morocco, followed by a big development of mining activity, Khouribga has expanded in a regular way.

Le pays de Ourdigha n'est pas pétri d'histoire au même titre que les riches plaines de Tadla et de Chaouia dont elle constitue l'interface. Les conditions climatiques et pédologiques ont voué cette région à la transhumance. En revanche le sous-sol de ce plateau renferme l'un des plus important gisement phosphatier du monde (en volume et en qualité) et sa mise en exploitation va transformer radicalement l’economie mais aussi les structures démographiques et sociales autour desquelles s'organisait la vie d'une population autrefois nomadisante. L'activité minière a créé l'infrastructure de base nécessaire à la viabilisation d'un espace presque désertique, et surtout elle a créé le premier noyau de peuplement et par conséquent le noyau urbain de la ville de Khouribga. Ville nouvelle, Khouribga doit sa paternité à l'activité minière et son développement est resté lié à l'essor de l'économie phosphatière. En revanche, depuis la fin du protectorat qu'a accompagné un grand essor de l'activité minière, Khouribga va connaitre une croissance urbaine très soutenue.
