Because of a lack of a major global study, cysicus coinage has for a long time seemed to be incoherent. The city corpus, from the end of the ivth century b. C, till hadrien reign, shows us an evolution of the various standards. The death of alexander the great points out the renewall of cyzicus coinage. An important mint of silver tetradrachms is initiated from 323 b. C , with the introduction of the type of apollon sat on an omphalos on the reverse. After some persic weight mints, from 323 to 315, then pseudo-ptolemaic in about 310, at last pseudophenician from 306 to 280 b. C. , the end of this coinage in about 280 shows the birth of the cyzicus attic standard, with the mint of posthumous tetradrachms of the lysimachus type. The first series are minted in about 275-270, then in 250-240, then from 220 to 215 and from 206 to 188 b. C. . From 240 to 220, cyzicus monetary policy seems to copy the byzantium punico-persic reform : demonetization, overstruck on the anterior brass coinage, and mint of a persic standard didrachm. After the peace of apamea, a new monetary reform produces a gold mint based upon the attic, persic and phenician standards, and a little silver coinage of rhodo-phenician weight. About 175 b. C. , these mints are replaced by spectacular tetradrachms with a large crown on the reverse, itselves forsaken during the troubles aristonicos causes. The brass coinage, firstly set in parallel to the silver one, colapses in the chaos of the mithridatics' wars. The first century has not been very productive, mainly with very little brass chalkoi mints. The julio-claudian period produces quite a stylistically second rate coinage, based on + mysian ; weight and not on provincial assaria. The reign of vespasian sets in cyzicus the assarion standard, with theese large coins it has never minted before. However, we must wait till the reign of domitian to see various mints. The + provincial style ; of cyzicus died during the reign of hadrian. With this emperor - and the nexts - the imperial cult become more important than ever.

Faute d'etude globale, le monnayage de cyzique apparut longtemps comme incoherent. Le corpus de cette cite, permet cependant de constater une evolution des differents etalons. La disparition d'alexandre le grand semble marquer le renouveau du monnayage de cyzique. Une importante emission de tetradrachmes, de didrachmes, de drachmes et d'hemidrachmes est initiee a partir de 323 av. J. -c. . Apres des frappes de poids persique entre 323 et 315 environ, puis de poids pseudo-ptolemaique vers 310, et enfin pseudo-phenicien entre 306 et 280 av. J. -c. , la fin de ce monnayage vers 280 av. J. -c. Marque le debut du standard attique a cyzique, avec l'emission de tetradrachmes posthumes au type de lysimaque. Les premieres series furent frappees vers 275-270 et 250-240, puis entre 220 et 215 et entre 206 et 188. Entre environ 240 et 220, cyzique semble calquer sa politique monetaire sur la reforme punico-persique de byzance : demonetisation, surfrappe du monnayage anterieur de bronze, et emission d'un didrachme de pied persique. Apres la paix d'apamee, une nouvelle reforme monetaire produit une frappe d'or selon un poids commun a differents etalons, ainsi qu'un petit monnayage d'argent de standard rhodo-phenicien. Ces frappes sont abandonnees vers 175 pour de spectaculaires tetradrachmes portant une large couronne au revers, delaisses ensuite lors des troubles causes par aristonicos. Le monnayage de bronze initie d'abord en parallele de ces frappes d'argent, se dissoud quant a lui dans les premices des guerres mithridatiques. Le premier siecle fut pauvre en numeraire, essentiellement compose de tres petites frappes de chalques de bronze. C'est cette tradition de petits modules de bronze que cyzique perpetue durant l'epoque julio-claudienne, en adoptant un standard + mysien ; dont la chalque represente la plus forte denomination. Le regne de vespasien declenche en fait a cyzique le style + romain ; des larges denominations fondees sur le systeme de l'assaria, dont differents modules fleurissent sous domitien. Le style + provincial ; de cyzique s'eteint alors sous hadrien, avec notamment l'emission de larges hexassaria, vecteurs singuliers de la propagande municipale. Le culte imperial atteint sous cet empereur un sommet inconnu jusqu'alors, qui se developpera sous les antonins.
