The spectator's involvement plays an essential role in the understanding of the complexity of lygia clark's reasoning. Seemingly discontinuous, her work possesses nonetheless an intrinsic logic - invisible at first, implacable as we analyse it further. Each of its phases - ranging from perceptive painting to sensorial art, from transformable sculptures to painted reliefs - demands for a different, greater and deeper implication from the public. We have followed her evolution, not only as it unfolds within the work itself, but also outwardly, as it relates to the international art scene. Lygia clark's work interpellates indeed the major subjects of contemporary art : movement, spectator's participation, the end of the object as such, the frame, body art, and the transition between the vertical plan of the wall and the three- dimensional space.

La participation du spectateur est une donnee fondamentale pour comprendre la complexite du cheminement de clark. Apparemment discontinue, son oeuvre possede une logique invisible au premier abord mais implacable lorsqu'on l'examine de pres. De la peinture perceptive a l'art sensoriel en passant par des sculptures transformables et des reliefs peints, chaque etape requiert une participation differente et de plus en plus profonde. Notre demarche a consiste a suivre ce cheminement non seulement a l'interieur de l'oeuvre elle meme mais aussi a l'exterieur, par rapport a l'art international. En effet l'oeuvre de clark aborde les principaux problemes de l'art contemporain tels que le mouvement, la participation, la fin de l'objet, le probleme du cadre, l'art corporel et le passage du plan vertical du mur a l'espace reel.
