This study, as its title points to Researches on the Glazed Ceramic of Beirut in the Medieval Period (IXth-XVth Century), proposes to deal with a certain number of issues about glazed ceramic present in Beirut during the most part of the medieval period. The research undertaken on the glazed ceramics found at the three excavated downtown sites Bey 070, Bey 071 and Bey 111 has a double objective: on one hand, to set a typology of the production proper to Beirut, which is a preliminary research essential for future studies on medieval glazed ceramic of Beirut and the Middle East area, and on the other hand, to specify the position of the medieval town within trade channels, notably at the regional scale. Investigations carried out in archaeology as well as in laboratory analyses provide significant results which enable a typological and chronological study of the material. The latter contributes to highlight the economic role played by the Lebanese metropolis during this period, and in particular the position of the production of Beirut within the Mediterranean trade exchanges network

Cette étude, comme l'indique son titre Recherches sur la céramique glaçurée de Beyrouth à la période médiévale (IXe-XVe siècle), propose de traiter un certain nombre de questions liées à la céramique glaçurée présente à Beyrouth durant la majeure partie de la période médiévale. La recherche entreprise sur les céramiques glaçurées découvertes sur les trois chantiers de fouilles Bey 070, Bey 071 et Bey 111 du centre-ville, vise un double objectif : d'une part, établir une typologie de la production propre à Beyrouth, recherche préliminaire indispensable pour les études futures sur la céramique glaçurée médiévale de Beyrouth et de la région proche-orientale ; et d'autre part, définir la place de la ville médiévale au sein des circuits commerciaux, notamment à l'échelle régionale. Les investigations menées tant au niveau archéologique qu'en matière d'analyses en laboratoire fournissent des résultats significatifs permettant une étude typologique et chronologique du matériel. Cette dernière contribue à souligner le rôle économique joué par la métropole libanaise durant cette période, et en particulier la place de la production beyrouthine dans le réseau des échanges commerciaux méditerranéens.
