The creation of the myth of the german colonial - as it appears in the review "kolonie un heimat" - seems to be structured around certain "mythotyps" ("mythologemes", to use the terminilogy of g. Durand upon whose our approach is based) : "nostalgia of origins", "the struggle between good and evil" ans "germanic cohesion and unlimited progress". These "mythotypes", wich have profound anthropologic roots and owe their resurgence to the socio-political situation of the kaisers germany, are centred on an essentially backward-looking utopia which has as its axis a return to "germaness" ("deutschtuum"). The fulfilment of the settler - a "new man", subscribing to a traditional, prechristian mysticism-is to be achieved within a "community of the people" ("volksgemeinschaft"). The german colonies thas become a real alternative, an ultimate hope for a reich considered as embasked on the road of decadence and degeneration.

La "nostalgie des origines, "la lutte entre le bien et le mal", le "grand un germanique et le mythe du progres indefini" : c'est autour de ces "mythologemes", d'apres la terminologie de gilbert durand, sur les travaux duquel s'appuie notre approche, que semblent s'organiser les constructions de l'imaginaire colonial allemand, tel qu'il transparait dans la revue "kolonie und heimat". Ces "mythologemes" qui s'ancrent dans un fonds anthropologique plus profond et dont la resurgence est liee a la situation socio-politique de l'allemagne wilhelminienne s'organisent autour d'une utopie essentiellement "restauratrice" centree sur un retour a la "germanite" (deutschtum). Le colon, tenu pour l"'homme nouveau", adepte d'une mystique traditionnelle, pre-chretienne doit s'epanouir au sein d'une communaute du peuple (volksgemeinschaft). Les colonies allemandes deviennent alors une veritable alternative, l'ultime espoir pour le reich que l'on croit engage dans la voie de la decadence et de la degenerescence.
