Abstract EN:

The idea to preserve the cinematographic film patrimony is contemporaneous with the birth of the cinema until the end of the nine-teen century. But, you should have to wait for the thirties in order this concept could be fulfilled. Through the first decades of the twenty century, the necessity to preserve the heritage has been defence less, then in spite of several abortive attempts, it came more and more present in the minds, until the birth of a french film library, in the year of 1936, the "cinematheque francaise". The story of the "cinematheque francaise", at one and the same time cinema museum and cinema school, gets married with (in closed to) the french political culture, from the "front populaire" til nowadays, going through the "occupation" and the crisis of may 68. In spite of her great and powerful influence, we shouldn't forget the existence of others organisms. Her failures to do, her mistakes for a good financial control, have in a way helped to the creation of this news organisms. The french film library of toulouse, the "service des archives du film de bois d'arcy", the "cinematheque universitaire" and the institut louis lumiere of lyon.

L'idee de la conservation du patrimoine cinematographique est contemporaine de la naissance du cinema, a la toute fin du dixneuvieme siecle. Mais il faudra pourtant attendre les annees trente pour que cette idee puisse se concretiser. A travers les premieres decennies du vingtieme siecle, la necessite de preserver le patrimoine, d'abord refutee, s'est patiemment faite acceptee, a travers un certain nombre de tentatives avortees, pour finalement aboutir, en 1936, a la creation de la cinematheque francaise. L'histoire de la cinematheque francaise, a la fois musee et ecole de cinema, epouse celle du cinema et de la politique culturelle de la france, du front populaire jusqu'a nos jours, en passant par l' occupation et la crise de mai 68. Mais son caractere hegemonique ne doit pas faire oublier la realite des autres organismes de conservation. Ses carences, ses erreurs de gestion ont, d'une certaine maniere, favorise la creation de nouveaux organismes, la cinematheque de toulouse, le service des archives du film de bois d'arcy, la cinema theque universitaire et l'institut louis lumiere, a lyon, tous, encore, aujourd'hui, a la recherche d'une veritable unite.
