In this thesis based on previous works, the corpus is constituted by six of the student's books, treating yachting history as a chain of successive modernities resulting from the interactionS between the evolution of techniques and of mentalities. The thesis itself uses yachting as an example for the study of innovation. First, one shows the existence of a progress impulsing its own dynamics and rules. Then, one proves that it is possible, up to a point, to model its behaviour, yachting history proving to be a valid non-exclusive model. This behaviour presents similarities with thermodynamics, information theory and fractals. Progress producing obsolescence, technical and historical heritage appear not only as a product, but also as a measure of the activity of progress. The thesis ends on contingencies for the creation, the acceptability and the obsolescence of innovations, which are useful in works of prospective.

Dans cette thèse sur validation d'acquis, le corpus est constitué par six livres du doctorant, traitant de l'histoire du yachting comme d'une suite de modernités successives résultant des interactions entre l'évolution des techniques et celle des mentalités. La thèse, elle, se sert du yachting comme exemple dans l'étude de l'innovation. D'abord, on valide l'existence d'un progrès générant sa propre dynamique. On montre ensuite que son fonctionnement est modélisable jusqu'à un certain point, l'histoire du yachting étant un modèle non exclusif valide. Ce comportement présente des similitudes avec la thermodynamique, la théorie de l'information et les fractales. Ce progrès étant producteur d'obsolescence, le patrimoine historique et technique apparaît non seulement comme un produit, mais également comme une mesure de l'activité du progrès. La thèse débouche sur des contingences de création, d'acceptabilité et d'obsolescence d'innovations, utiles en prospective.
